Researchers Connects TV and Computer Use to Child Obesity
By some estimates, children average 42 Hours per week.
According to Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine(March 2008), an estimated 16 percent of children ages 6-19 are overweight, a 45 % increase in one decade.
University of Buffalo (UoB) researchers have clearly linked child obesity in the US to too much TV and computer usage. UoB
Researchers found that children who had their TV or computer usage monitored reduced their TV watching and computer game playing to 17.5 hours per week.
University of Minneapolis researchers recruited 90 households to participate in a study limiting TV and computer usage. Researchers found that families were able to reduce their TV and computer usage by 50%, simply by controlling and monitoring these devices with technology. As a result, they swam more and went to the park more. Parents reported that their children have been more cooperative and willing to do other things with their free time.
